BCC Executive Meeting January 9th 2024

BENTLEY CURLING CLUB
Minutes – Jan 9th , 2024
In attendance: Trina Dresser, Lonnie Bergstrom, Jim Orr, Shannon Anderson , Nancy Haarstad, Jeff Bajema
Absent: Allan Wilson, Steve Dick, Gail Wilson, Dana Holowaty,, Kelly McKinlay

Meeting was called to order at 7 PM by Loonie

Agenda was approved with additions

Approval of the minutes from the meeting held Nov 21 2023 – minutes approved by Jeff

Treasurer’s report – Jim moved to approve the treasurer’s report, seconded by Lonnie

New Business & Correspondence
o
Men’s Bonspiel – There are 3 other bonspiels already scheduled for January 26th. Lonnie suggested we look at March 2 & 3
o
Casino – We have our license and just about all the volunteers we need have signed up
o
Cooler replacement – Jeff’s contact says our cooler is a good one and probably just needs servicing. Lonnie will contact Steve at Red Deer Refrigeration to see if he will service it. Jeff also obtained 2 quotes for new coolers. Both quotes were in the $3500 range.
o
Camera in Plant room – Lonnie said a wi-fi connected camera in the plant room, especially during startup, would be a real asset. Lonnie is going to source one.
o
Ladies' bonspiel – Trina is going to check with last year’s participants to see if there is any interest.

Old Business
o
Garbage – We continue to ask the town to install a wooden bin with a lid near our entry door
o
Raffle tickets – 150 books printed; 133 books given to members; 41 books returned; 1 book at lounge; and 16 books unsold.
o
On-ice lighting - Allan is working on it.
o
Farmer’s Bonspiel – 16 teams with a profit of $16,000
o
Facility Rentals

Lonnie moved to adjust the rental charges as follows - $150 per hour for ice and lobby, $150 for ice maker when ice rented, $100 per hour for just the lobby, and $100 per hour for the lounge (which includes a lounge attendant) Seconded by Jim.

The group agreed that in cases where the ice is rented the ice maker would let the renters in, the renters would lock up after themselves and we could arm our alarm system remotely. If the lounge is rented the lounge attendant could lock it up.

We will make our waivers available to ice rental groups.
o
Town of Bentley Grant application – We have submitted a grant request for $5000 to upgrade our cooler and upgrade out POS system. Jim has not heard back from the Town of Bentley
o
Parking signs – The town of Bentley has installed 2 signs that designate reserved parking spaces for our staff.
o
Total communication bill – phone/internet/TV - Trina talked to Shaw and was able to get a bit of a deal.
o
On ice advertising – Signs for ECKRIM, Foothills, and LA Courier should come down and Trina has 2 renters to collect from.
